What Causes Sore Throat in Children?


Once or twice a year, every child and adult gets a sore throat but do you know what you should do when it happens? What is the difference between sore throat and strep throat? Should you go to the doctor immediately or could you just call the doctor to ask for medicine over the phone?

Listed below are the causes of sore throat:

1. Virus is the most common cause of sore throat. Common viruses and even the viruses that cause mononucleosis and the flu can cause sore throat.

2. Nose breathing can produce dryness and soreness in the throat.

3. Post nasal drip or sinus drainage may cause a sore throat.

4. A bacteria can also cause sore throat. The most common bacteria to cause a sore throat are Streptococcus and Arcanobacterium.

5. Ater a treatment with antibiotics, chemotherapy, or other immune-compromising medications may due to Candida or commonly known as "thrush" can also cause sore throat.

6. A sore throat won't last for more than two weeks, this may be a sign of a serious illness such as throat cancer or AIDS, so better check with your Doctor about it.
